SANDRA CROSS "My installations are concerned with the role of boundaries in shaping thought."

"My work draws on concepts of being and presence in contemporary philosophy. I have used the form of the screen of Islamic architecture in my work, as a mechanism that both allows and disrupts vision, joining and separating the spaces between which it is placed.

"I have also undertaken a residency in India, a place where different spiritual philosophies have met, co-existed, and often overlapped; the sculpture, "Overlap" is the result of my exploration of that.

"My work is process-based. I construct a fabric from paper and cloth, using beeswax to transform layers into a cohesive whole of translucent material. I use text and pattern in my work, cutting into or embedding drawings and writing in the fabric."
